Is cereal fattening? Its all I can afford for now, and Im talkingall types, fuit loops, corn pops, special K?
I%26#039;ve never heard of someone getting fat on cereal, although the sugar ones like Froot Loops offer almost no nutrition. Stick to the high fiber and whole grain ones without all the unwanted sugar, like Cheerios, Kashi, Fiber One, and Wheat Chex, Total, etc. Then make sure you%26#039;re using 1% or skim milk...then eat away..you may actually lose weight.
Reply:Bread, Cereal, Rice, and Pasta

Grain products like bread, cereal, rice, and pasta are good for you. They are important sources of vitamins and minerals. Breads, cereals, rice, and pasta are also good sources of carbohydrates like starch and fiber.

Many people think that starchy foods like breads, rice and pasta are fattening. They are not. But when you add fats like margarine, oil, mayonnaise, cheese sauce or gravy to them, you add many extra calories.

Whole-grain foods have more fiber than white grain foods. There are many kinds of whole-grain foods, such as oatmeal, brown rice, grits, corn tortillas and whole wheat bread. You may want to try a whole grain bread instead of white bread. Use brown rice instead of white rice or mix them together the next time you have rice.

Some breads and cereals have lots of fat and sugar added when they are manufactured. Croissants, danish, doughnuts, cake and some muffins have more fat and calories than servings of plain breads and cereals. If you enjoy sweet breads and cereals, you don%26#039;t have to give them up. Try eating these foods less often or in small amounts. When you shop, read the food labels and look for breads, cereals, rice and pasta mixes that have less fat and sugar in them. You can also cut down on fat when you make rice or pasta dishes. Try using less oil, butter, or margarine than the recipe says. Sometimes you can cut the fat in half without changing the way the food tastes or looks!
Reply:YES! - carbs dissolve into sugar in your body which turns to FAT unless you use up that sugar you just ingested IMMEDIATELY!

You should really pay more attention to the ingredients in your cereals! They are all full of sugar...you should get the natural stuff.
Reply:Yes you can, basically all cereal is, is sugars and carbs, and we all know carbs are no good (well some..) If you%26#039;re hard up on cash, instead of buying cereal, try fruits, or salads, anything can be made cheap if you really try!!
Reply:Great post! I totally understand how you feel. I%26#039;m also trying to lose weight and I found this great product which is working for me. You can check the website at

http://www.they-fit.info , I had a free trial and paid less than $7.00 shipping and handling. Best of luck!
Reply:Wonderwall knows what he%26#039;s talking about; Greg%26#039;s info is very outdated and incorrect, I NEVER eat bread, pasta, or cereal because it is crap. Protein bars are ok, but they are also PROCESSED; try to eat foods in their natural state, nothing canned, packaged etc... You have to find a way to make more money if you cannot afford healthy food. Don%26#039;t know how old u are, but ask your parents for some $$!! Food is a necessity. The staples of my diet, which I recommend, are egg whites, low-fat cottage cheese, skim milk (goat milk), veggies, avocado, walnuts, almonds. That is what I eat and I get A LOT of compliments on my figure. And I have a lot of energy too. Since u seem to be trying to find something to eat for breakfast: Drink ONE QUART of low-fat GOAT MILK. It is healthy, containing the proper proportions of protein, carbs, and fat required by the body, its quick, easy, and a cheap meal. That is actually a complete breakfast; you don%26#039;t need anything else. And you will be full. Its best to heat it up first; easier to digest.
Reply:Yes, breakfast cereals are very calorie dense and full of crap. Even Special K contains Sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and wheat flour (regular white flour). That is why cereal is so cheap. Because its made with crap....

Here are the ingedients for special K:

RICE, WHEAT GLUTEN, SUGAR, DEFATTED WHEAT GERM, SALT, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, DRIED WHEY, MALT FLAVORING, CALCIUM CASEINATE,

Yes, it does have vitamins and minerals but that%26#039;s like saying you eat snickers and butterfingers to get your antioxidants from the chocolate.
